XYMOGEN~ My new EXCITING supplement!!

As we age, it becomes easier to gain weight and harder to maintain muscle. Thus, our waistlines tends to fatten, our muscles weaken, and the physical tasks that once seemed trivial now seem tiring. The deterioration of mitochondria, the microscopic power plants within every cell responsible for converting food into biochemical fuel, has been implicated as a major cause. The loss of mitochondrial efficiency and number over time deprives us of living a longer, healthier life. It may come to no surprise, therefore, that mitochondrial biogenesis, the natural process in which your cells build new mitochondria, has been suggested hold the key to delay the deteriorations in appearance and performance, and even aging.
Representing a remarkable ~ 10% of body weight, mitochondria produce more than 95% of your body's energy. The more of these "fuel stations" our cells contain, the more calories you can burn, leaving less fat to contribute to diabetes or obesity, for instance. Mitochondria are produced via mitochondria biogenesis, the stimulation of which can help delay aging and maintain health as we age.[Image]
Mitochondrial biogenesis is a complicated process involving more than 1,000 genes and producing and estimated 20% of the cellular protein in the body. While caloric restriction and exercise potently activate molecular "switches" controlling mitochondrial biogenesis, a simpler solution comes in the form of the Mitochondrial Renewal Kit containing neutraceuticals shown to activate the very same switches.
XYMOGEN Mitochondrial Renewal Kit: "Three Degrees" of Restoration
1st Degree: Nitric Oxide (NO) is to your heart and blood vessels what your favorite couch is to your legs and feet. NO takes a load off of your heart and blood vessels by relaxing the latter (known as vasodilation), thereby easing the strain placed on the former (blood flows more easily, so your heart doesn't need to pump as hard). Among sundry other roles, NO directly activates the "master regulator" of mitochondrial biogenesis and function and metabolic fitness known as PGC-1a.
2nd Degree: Found in red wine and studied by respected research organizations including Salk Institute, resveratrol is one of the most promising anti-aging nutraceuticals to date. Labeled as an "exercise mimetic", resveratrol activates SIRT1, a molecular "switch" that governs the activation of PGC-1a. Exercise also activates this pathway; hence the aforementioned label.
3rd Degree: a-lipoic acid (ALA) is considered a "king" among antioxidants. Capable of fending off damaging free radicals in a variety of cellular environments, ALA also protects the levels of other antioxidants such as vitamins E and C. In addition, ALA stimulates a molecular switch known as AMPK in the body (which in turns activates PGC-1a), while inhibiting another version of AMPK located in the brain. The end result is to increase mitochondrial biogenesis (via body AMPK) while enhancing appetite control and weight management (brain AMPK).
Benefits of XYMOGEN Mitochondrial Renewal Kit:* Increased mitochondrial biogenesis* Increased metabolic (calorie-burning) rate* Improved insulin sensitivity and action* Improved glucose disposal* Increased Nitric Oxide (NO) production* Improved cardiovascular and endothelial (blood vessel) function* Improve appetite control* Reduced fat mass* Increased muscle mass* Improved exercise tolerance and performance* Improved antioxidant status and resistance to oxidative stress
A month supply is $150. This is NOT a vitamin replacement.

Finally! After a year of working out, eating clean and feeling as if I was gonna pull out all of my hair... I am FINALLY sitting below 150 pounds!! Yep! Today I weighed in at 148! I was feeling so good! Because actually, I have been at 148 for a couple days now :)
This is a HUGE deal for me! Because when I was doing workout program after workout program, converting to an all 100% Vegan diet, seeing a personal trainer and still couldn't drop below 150... I was running out of ideas! Ha ha ha...
I believe that the thyroid medication, good eating and continuous strength training has really pushed this weight loss. We all know I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, and that I am now taking a prescription for it. It's crazy just how powerful your thyroid really is and the importance it plays in your body.
There are many women who swear they have a thyroid issue (they have all the signs) and still their doctor won't diagnose them with Hypothyroidism and therefore won't help or offer them with treatment for it. It's very sad to me.
There may still be hope that I can compete this summer!! (crossing my fingers!!)

I've been switching up my workouts between Chalean Extreme and Insanity with a Bootcamp Class twice a week. I feel good! Before finding out all this, I was very low on energy and hadn't been working out like I usually do... actually for some days wasn't working out at all. It was very upsetting. But all is better now!! I feel really good!!

Anyway!! just had to share!! My weight goal is 135... we'll see ;)

So Guess What?

I have been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism.

For the past 2 months, I have been noticing some changes with myself. I can't seem to wake up at my normal morning wake up time (4:30-5am). Hell, I can't even wake up at 6am or 7am... I have a hard time getting up at 8am but I force myself to do so! Crazy right!
Other than my excessive sleep patterns (in which I have been diagnosing myself with laziness!) ;) I have also been noticing weight gain. Now mind you, I am extremely active, I eat a clean vegan diet and I am gaining weight! For the past year, I have not been able to get my weight under 150 Pounds to save my life... It's been a battle, it's been frustrating and it's wearing on me.
So while training for my first Figure Show and not losing a single pound or dropping any body fat with all the extreme dieting, my personal trainer at the time quit on me... and I quit on him.
It was mind boggling.
Since then I have been eating clean. I eat 100% Vegan and include a lot of Raw goodness in my diet. I consider my diet to be very healthy and SUPERHERO-Like ;)
I've been told by many close friends that I should go get my thyroid checked. I put the idea to the side and still tried to do things "my way." I put myself on 100% Raw Food cycles of 3-7 days at a time, continued to exercise... was continually dropping energy and still gaining weight. I sought out advice from a close friend and mentor to me and she advised me to get my damn thyroid CHECKED!!! Lol...
Ughh ok!!! I'll get it checked!!
A month went by and I finally went to a Dr. that another friend strongly recommended.
I was sent to get my blood work done... which let me tell you, I HATE BLOOD WORK!!!!!! I use to pass out EVERY time I gave blood, now I just cry, breath deep, turn pale and pasty looking but stay awake to feel EVERYTHING and experience it all!! What the hell happened?!?!? Why can't I just PASS OUT anymore and get out of the situation!!! LOL!! But I know, this is a step forward, I'm getting better... I guess... ;)
I had SIX vials of blood taken from me. I was a mess!
So anyway, the tests came back the following day and during my Dr. visit I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and low DHEA (sub optimal DHEA levels). Everything else; cholesterol, cortisol, cardiac risk ratio, triglycerides, and my blood sugar levels were all really good.
So my treatments: DHEA hormone cream x 45 days then re-test levels and 1gm Nature-Throid tablet a day for 8 weeks then re-test.
My TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone/High) is at 4.69. Normal levels should be between 0.35-2.1 So you see how far I am off the chart. In my tablets, I am getting one part fT4 to two parts fT3.
It's all a little crazy, but this a step forward in the right direction. I don't like the idea of taking the prescription because I don't take medicine for anything! If I have a headache (which I've had a lot lately) I just let it do its thing, I never reach for Tylenol. I believe food and our diet will fix our bodies... this thyroid has just got me so stumbled that I don't know what to do but try the prescription and go from there.
I was reading that taking the Hypothyroid medication is LIFE LONG... But I couldn't possibly take this for the rest of my life... there has to be another answer.

On top of me finding out I have this thyroid issue, the Dr. also gave me a B12 shot and I am on B12 sublingual drops. I'm on added Calcium and have cut all gluten out of my diet. My Dr. assumes I may have a gluten sensitivity, so we'll see.

So that's about it, that sums up my week for you! Ha ha ... It has been a busy week and extremely tiring. Today is day 2 on my Nature-Throid... so we'll see how this goes. Today I weighed in at 159 :( Yikes!! But it's ok!! It's OK!!!

Coenzyme Q10 ~ A Miracle Nutrient

You May Benefit from CoQ10 supplementation if:

* You are over 40
* You are on statins to reduce cholesterol
* You are experiencing difficulty with memory, mood, and clear thinking "Brain Frog"
* You have diabetes
* You have high blood pressure
* You suffer from congestive heart failure
* You avoid red meat
* You are Vegan
* You are and endurance exerciser
* You are under stress
* You are exposed to pollutants or cigarette smoke
* Your immune system is stressed or comprised

I don't know about you, but I see at least 4 subjects on this list that tells me that I need CoQ10 Supplementation... that seems like a big deal!

The powerful health benefits of CoQ10 have been widely recognized. Initially, in controlled trials of heart patients in Japan, positive effects on cardiac output and hypertension were noted. Subsequently hundreds of other scientific papers published in the United States and around the world expanded the recognized benefits of CoQ10 to include is antioxidant role, preventing damage to cell membranes by reactive chemicals called free radicals, which are formed naturally as a result of the body's normal activity and free radicals are also found in the environment in the form of every day pollutants such as exhaust fumes and cigarette smoke. Countering the effects of aging and stress on tissues with high energy requirements such as the heart, brain, kidney, and immune system is another key function to CoQ10.

Reported beneficial effects of CoQ10 extend to include cancer, asthma, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, chronic fatigue, atherosclerosis, and many other degenerative conditions.

Foods such as meat, broccoli and spinach as well as soy beans and palm oils are sources of dietary CoQ10. CoQ10 is found in many foods, but at very low concentrations. It would be extremely difficult to acquire a reasonable dose of CoQ10 strictly through the typical diet. One would have to consume approximately three pounds of sardines or 15 pounds of broccoli a day to provide the minimal suggested supplementation levels... No thank you!! ;)

CoQ10 is produced by the following chemical process known as the mevalonate pathway, a synthesis pathway also shared by cholesterol. Widely used statin drugs like Lipitor, Crestor, Simvastatin, Prevacol and others block both the production of cholesterol, a very positive benefit, but also block the production of CoQ10 precursors. As a consequence, over time, the body's reserve of CoQ10 may become depleted and a person taking statins may experience muscle aches, fatigue, and "brain fog." With aging the body's ability to produce CoQ10 decreases and many conditions increase the body's requirements for CoQ10.

I used to work in a pharmacy as a pharmacy technician and have always seen CoQ10 but had never known the benefits or the reason behind taking it. I am greatful to be learning about it now... as a Vegan, an endurance exerciser, a person who is exposed to pollutants and daily stress (who isn't!) is in need of a great CoQ10 supplement!

So where do you shop for this CoQ10? With over a hundred different brands to chose from and teens behind the GNC counters who don't know anything about the supplement itself, how do you find a great CoQ10 supplementation?

And here is WHY... Genewize LifeMap Me nutritional supplements and LifeMap "ME" repair serum are individually custom formulated with the form of CoQ10 that best matches YOUR personal genetic makeup. Because each of us is unique from the outside or the inside, Genewize provides the right CoQ10 for YOU!!

Now that is the way to go!!! Customization! Why settle for less? DON'T!

Cheers to GREAT Health!!

Raw Cleanse Give a Way Winner!

At the beginning of the Raw Cleanse, I asked all the members 3 questions:
* What was your last cooked meal before starting the cleanse?
* How many days is your goal for your Raw Cleanse?
* What is your WHY for doing the Cleanse?

For the ones who have participated in the drawing, I wrote down the names of each, threw the names in a bowl and randomly picked one lucky winner!

Becky Haavisto Demastus is our very first Raw Cleanse FREE Give a Way WINNER!!!!

Her answers to the questions:

"The night before starting my raw cleanse I ate Penne Al la Vodka. One of my FAVORITE pasta dishes. So creamy and rich...ummm, ummm, good :)

My Raw Cleanse goal is/was originally 30 days, but I think I'm going to keep going! I continue to lose weight at a steady pace of 1-2lbs/week and I have a goal and I'd like to stay raw until I meet that goal then stay "mostly" raw once I reach my goal. My mind is so clear and I feel great!!

Why did I join? Because I need motivation to be successful in the things that I do. My friends and family think it's crazy to eat all raw so surrounding myself with people like me motivate me to keep going."

Becky Demastus

What an awesome goal Becky!! And you're right on, surround yourself with people like you who will motivate you to keep going!!!!

Congratulations Becky!!!!

Beginning of the Raw Cleanse (Monday March 1st) and the Announcement of the First Give A Way!

Welcome to the RAW Cleanse! You are here because YOU want to be here! You’re either looking for a short cleanse (1-3 days) or a longer cleanse (14 days) or an even LONGER cleanse (30 days and beyond). Whichever the length of your cleanse is, you will benefit with huge results!
Clearer Skin
Shiny Hair
Stronger Nails
And so much more!

This Raw Cleanse will cleanse your body of toxins and rid your mind of old habits of poor food choices. You’ll learn the power of Raw and the importance it has on our overall health.

Take this journey one day at a time and don’t rush it! Enjoy the meals you make! Enjoy the decisions you are making. Let the food take care of you!
You will be surprised on what will come out of eating 100% Raw ☺

I imagine all of you went grocery shopping this weekend for preparation for the next few days. Lots of fresh fruits, fresh veggies, frozen fruit for easy to make smoothies and leafy greens for salads. I know! I know!! Salads may seem boring… but feel free to dazzle them up!! Add some red peppers, cucumber, tomato, avocado, sunflower seeds, dates, dices carrots, the sky is the limit.

Raw is anything prepared under 118 degrees. So if you’re wanting to dehydrate, keep the thermostat set at 117.

If anyone is new to juicing, and doesn't have a juicer... no sweat!!! Add water to a blender, your washed produce (cucumber, zucchini, celery, apple... etc.), blend it all up, then run all the liquid through a paint straining bag (or nut milk bag) to remove all the excess pulp. Discard the pulp and what is left is the JUICE!!! You may have to run the juice through the bag a time or two, but it's super easy and I find to be a lot of fun (especially with the kids).

I’ve had a lot of requests for salad dressings. I have to say that I personally recommend Kristen Suzanne’s book: Easy Raw Vegan Salads & Dressings. This book has amazing recipes that are easy to make in the kitchen. You can find the book on Amazon or by going to
Another great book to have handy to you is Raw Food Real World. This book has been a tool that I have used in the kitchen many many times when prepping Raw Recipes.

The best way to assess how many calories per day you eat is by keeping track. A great way to do this is by writing it down. Keeping a food diary is more than just writing it down. It will help you become aware of the foods you are eating and how often... it way also give you insight as to WHY you are eating them.

Great websites that are great sources for Raw:

Raw Success Stories:

Living Food Information:

I will be sharing recipes on the Raw Cleanse Group so be on the look out for those ☺

Stay in connection with the group!
Email me personally at and/or write on the group wall stating how many days you are doing the Cleanse for. Accountability is Success!

Now!! At the end of the week there will be a GIVE-A-Way!!! YES!!! A FREE Give-A-Way to keep the group motivated! The drawing will take place on Friday night (March 5th).
I want to hear from ALL of you (those who want in on their chance to WIN): What did you eat the night before the Raw Cleanse began (Sunday Feb. 28th) and what are your goals for completing this Cleanse. Are you doing a short term cleanse or a long term cleanse (explain to me the time frame of your Raw Cleanse).
All entries MUST be in no later than Friday night at 11pm (MST) and come Midnight, I will announce the winner of the Give-A-Way!!!
The winner of the Give-A-Way will receive a box of 12: Vega Vibrancy Bars!! These bars are 100% RAW, Vegan and Energizing!!!
The Stats on these bars:
Vega Whole Food Vibrancy Bar is a sumptuous celebration of organic plant-based superfoods. Raising the ‘bar’ to a new level, Vega Vibrancy Bars:

Meeting Brendan Brazier!

How EXCITED am I!!
Last night at Sprouts I met Brendan Brazier! Author of The Vegan Nutrition Guide, Thrive. Professional Ironman Triathlete and Formulator of Vega.
I have probably read Thrive AT LEAST 6 times front to back! I'm obsessed with the teachings in this book and even more so now that I am training for a Figure Show 100% Vegan.
When Vega Kelly (from Vega Community) announced that Brendan was going to be at Sprouts in my neck of the woods.. well, I couldn't pass this opportunity up! I had already missed the last time Brendan was in Az. I would have felt absolutely horrible if I would have missed him AGAIN!
So I did everything I could to go!
I skipped (literally) right into Sprouts with my book in hand and a HUGE cheesy grin on my face! I was like a little girl! It was quite amusing!
Brendan was sitting there ( playing with his phone... probably FB'ing ;) ). We talked about his book and I told him about the recipes that I have tried from his book. I could have sat all night and talked to him... picked his brain for every piece of knowledge I could have obtained. It was fantastic and everything I needed.
There will be a Figure Show in July and I WILL be ready!!! Cut, Lean and 100% VEGAN!!!! Oh yeah!!!

Loving Left-Overs!

Left-Overs are becoming a big deal in my diet.
I use the first day of the week to soak and rinse my beans that I will eat for the week (or at least next few days). This week I cooked black beans, red beans and black-eyed peas. I made enough brown rice to last me and my family 3-4 days, organic corn and organic green peas, and quinoa. Everything is ready to go!
The only prep time I need for my meals are heating (which I heat all my goodies in a pot with a tsp of coconut oil), and dicing of any fresh veggies. I picked up some lettuce at the CSA this weekend that I use as a bed for my heated ingredients.
With my busy day to day life, it is important for me to have my food ready and available to me to cook and prepare quickly, but without risking my health. I choose to cook and prepare my own food rather than buy something frozen or packaged. It makes me feel much better and a lot lighter on my feet :)
Between my Raw Vegan Protein smoothies and vegan rice and veggie bowls, I got it made!
Don't let those left-overs go to waist!
Create a lunch or dinner bowl with a variety of veggies or make a soup!
My husband and I have come to the conclusion that making the base of our meals ahead of time and making rice and veggies the staple of our diet, we're making our wallets fatter :)
It's a fantastic WIN-WIN!

MY 100th POST!!

Wow!! 100 posts and 100 more to come!!

When I realized I was approaching my 100th post, I wanted to take some time in truly thinking about WHAT I wanted this post to be. Leaving all my training aside, my diet, my workouts... none of it I wanted to write about (at least not for this once in a lifetime post) ;)
I've thought about this post now for 3 days... and the only thing I can think to write about is the GRATITUDE I have for the loved ones I have in my life.

So Cheers to this 100th post... and let the THANKING begin!

First and foremost, I must thank my loving husband, Ryan, for continuing to show me his support and love with everything I choose to take on in my life. Ryan
has always been there right beside me holding my hand and telling me to "do it babe" "
what do you have to lose." He is the shoulder I cry on, my breath of fresh air, my strength to keep going and my one in a million BEST FRIEND! I'm not the easiest person to tolerate and I know that ;) But he does it with no effort and reminds me that everything will always be "OK".
Never have I gone a day without thanking the Lord for the blessing of my husbands unconditional love for me.
I'm thankful for Ryan's Dad, Kerrie, who played a huge part in arranging the relationship between Ryan and I. I was 17 when I met Kerrie who had introduced me to Ryan (21). I KNEW Ryan was my "Soul Mate"... and to this day I believe Ryan is my "Soul Mate."
I can't express enough in words how much I love my husband and just how thankful I am to have him as part of my life :)

Second, I want to thank my two beautiful girls who have given me nothing but love. They treat me like a Super Hero Mommy!! As if I can't ever do anything wrong :) In their innocent little eyes, I AM their hero! I'm so blessed to have been given the role as a Mother... I couldn't have asked for a greater happiness. These two little Princess's keep megrounded and always on my toes to be a better example. As we continue to grow together, and continue to learn from each other, these two girls willalways be the fire in my heart that will drive me to greater success!! Nothing can top the love that a Mother possesses for her children! I LOVE you GIRLS and am extremely thankful for the two little hearts that beat so curiously for life itself :)

I want to thank my Family! My brother, sister, Mom, Mother in law, 3 Sister in laws (one in which is my best friend!!) :) my annoying brother in law who will continue to give me a hard time about eating Vegan... our love-hate relationship is more fun than you all know ;) ha ha ha...

Thank you Team Beachbody and my AMAZING Family of Coaches!!! You ALL Rock!! You all keep me going each and every day. I want to succeed more than I did the day before, and most importantly, I want to see all of YOU succeed! Together as a TEAM, we will all see each other at the TOP!!

Thank you Kristen Suzanne for being a tremendous friend to me and someone that I can go to for advice on training as a Vegan, advice on eating Raw, great recipes to share with my precious family and for a nice girl talk with endless giggles. You have been there for me through thick and thin. We may have had our differences and voiced them aggressively at times, but we are one of a kind friends and have built a solid friendship that will last a lifetime. Without your loyal friendship, I wouldn't know what I know today. I'm truly blessed to have an amazing and warm hearted friend as YOU!

Thank you God for giving me the life I live today! For guiding me in the direction to learn and teach others. Thank you for using me to help others become healthier and live stronger! I am so beyond thankful for this life you have given me... I will do my very best to succeed in being a friend and helping as many people as I can succeed!!

Thank you... all of you for your support!!

Eating for a Better ME

It's been 11 days since going 100% Vegan.

I can feel a HUGE difference... in the way I think, the way I feel, my stamina in the gym and my all around purpose as a motivational influence.
I am treating myself the way I deserve to be treated; with absolute love, kindness and honesty. I've taken out all the bad in my diet: Sugar, whey, animal bi-products and replaced them with pure GREEN juice, whole grains, fresh fruit and Vegan friendly cooked foods.

The power that food has on your mind and body is amazing. I'm fascinated with all of it. As I learn more and more about my Vegan diet and living for a better me, I find that kindness really isn't that difficult to come across.

Look in the mirror and tell yourself what you see. I see a Gorgeous Woman who has grown into her own skin, who is PROUD of who she has become in life. I see a mother and a wife who wants only the BEST for her family. I see honesty and pure joy. I see the benefits of a kind diet settling in all over my body; shiny hair, clear complexion, bright eyes and a sincere smile. I see ME and the person I want to be. I see knowledge. I see a student who is still learning. I see a teacher and a positive influence to those around her. I see the sun beaming out of me with life and amazing energy!! I see ME!
What do YOU see in yourself?

I'm doing this transformation (as a Vegan Show Girl) the way I want to do it... honest, pure and simple! I understand I have a lot more to learn, and will continue to seek the information... but in the mean time, I won't cause stress on myself for setting a deadline to look the way I want to look (for the show). I will do my best with my transformation, keeping it strictly Vegan and High Raw... the results will follow... in time!

Be kind to yourself and be kind to others :)

Vegan + Superior Nutrition = SPROUTS!!

Vegan or not, everyone needs sprouts in their diet. Our bodies are being damaged inside, and mercilessly, by toxic chemical reactions. Toxic chemical additives and hazardous wastes in our air, water, and food supplies will continue to pervade our living and working environments. These toxins are returning to us in everything we eat, drink, and breathe. Thankfully, much of the internal damage they do heals automatically, like that cut on our finger. However, when our body is not adequately nourished it can't neutralize and expel these poisons fast enough. They build up in our body, and so does the invisible damage they do. Toxic build - up can severely damage our immune system.

A body that is toxic is like a cut with dirt in it. It is contaminated and may not heal properly. It needs to be cleaned and given the nutrients it needs to disinfect, detoxify, rebuild, and heal itself. Many of us have already recognized this fact of health and are
being more careful about our nutrition. There is a food source in Nature full of concentrated nutrients that can help our body detox - and rebuild our immune system.

Sprouting has become a ritual in our home... that and Juicing!

Being Vegan and making sure that I get as much nutrients as I possibly can, I alternate my sprouts (by protein, calcium, iron, potassium and other vitamins).

This week's sprouting includes Green Pea, Radish Sprouts, and Alfalfa Sprouts.

Green Pea: Rich in chlorophyll, protein, enzymes and minerals.

Radish Sprouts: High in vitamins, A, B-1, B-6 and C, folic and pantothenic acids, niacin, potassium, iron and phosphorous. When exposed to light, they turn light green with chlorophyll.

Alfalfa Sprouts: High in protein, essential amino acids, and eight digestive enzymes; vitamins A, C, B complex (including B-12), D, E, and 4 minerals; iron, phosphorous, calcium, magnesium, and potassium, and - when exposed to light - high in chlorophyll.

I include my girls in on my sprouting FUN! They love it! Sprouting is easy and sooo good for you!!

Want to learn HOW to sprout and witness the ease of it... just watch Kristen's Video: How to Grow Sprouts.

A weekend of Inspiration

2009 winner of the MaxFormation, Toni Warrick was here in Phoenix, Az this weekend! Toni came to talk about her journey with weight loss and full on body transformation. Toni's story is amazing and truly inspirational. Toni answered questions for others that were doing the 12 week transformation and one's that needed guidance on their own individual success. Listening to her was one thing that I needed... she had said that the scale meant NOTHING as long as you were losing inches and body fat. As much as I have heard this before and know the truth of it, it was hearing it from TONI that made it really sink in to my head.
After the questions and answers with Toni, she then put on a Bootcamp Class that we all got to participate in. It was Fun, Exciting and Sweat Dripp'n!! And guess what?! I LOVED IT!! :)

I had even mentioned to Toni that I was doing this transformation Vegan... she didn't bash on it or try to talk me out of it she just guided me in the direction of vegan supplements and told me that I CAN do it! What a GAL! :)
Toni has made an impression on me and so many others! She is one that I will remember and follow for years to come!

Cheers to YOU Toni and your amazing success!

Kristen's Raw 17th Awesome Giveaway: FREE RAW VITAMINS

It's time for another awesome giveaway (here was the last giveaway I hosted). The prize for January? RAW VITAMINS from VITAMIN CODE. I will be drawing the name of 1 winner for a bottle of their Vitamin Code Raw D3 - The Hottest Nutrient Under The Sun. (How cool of them to offer this to my readers!)

Right now, with this being winter in the United States, I suspect there are a lot of people out there who are in need of this important nutrient! Vitamin D3 is vital for many functions including to help build a stronger immune system. Here is what Vitamin Code / Garden of Life had to say about Vitamin D3...

As vitamin D deficiency has become more prevalent, the attention and focus paid to vitamin D have increased, and for good reason. Most people familiar with vitamin D understand that this nutrient is essential to skeletal system health.† Along with calcium, vitamin D is considered vital for maintaining healthy bones.† Vitamin D actually regulates the use of calcium in the body by dramatically increasing its absorption and utilization.

Much of the interest in vitamin D stems from the fact that it’s found throughout the body in over 600 receptor sites including the brain and the heart. Due to the fact that vitamin D receptors are so prevalent in the body, research has increased on vitamin D, and seemingly everyday new studies tout the health benefits of vitamin D consumption.

Recent studies have also shown that vitamin D supports immune health by helping to regulate the immune system.† The brain is home to dozens of vitamin D receptor sites, and vitamin D has been shown to enhance memory and concentration.† Vitamin D supports healthy digestion, again since receptor sites are found from the mouth all the way through the intestines.† Healthy vitamin D levels support two increasing areas of concern—breast health for women and prostate health for men.†

†These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.

The drawing will end on January 22nd at 11:59pm... so don't wait!! Enter to win today!!!

At around 4:30pm today, I became extremely tired! It was so crazy... I have been experiencing a lot of energy this week and was just taken back with the loss of energy. I drank my first protein smoothie then took a hot shower thinking that would help wake me up, but it didn't. I remained tired all night long. I noticed that I had only had 995 calories this far into my day and needed more before I could even think about calling it a night. So that's where my second protein shake came in. Day 2 High Raw 100% Vegan: Leg and Ab Workout

This morning was GREAT!!! I am so proud of myself. I went into that gym and I OWNED IT!!!! Ha ha ha ha... Seriously! I took charge of my workouts and didn't let up. I lifted heavy and maxed out at 6-8 reps.

Here it is, my leg exercise from this morning:

Pre-Workout Drink:
* One Scoop Sun Warrior Protein (Vanilla)
* One Scoop BCAA

Leg Extensions
* Set 1 - 90lbs, 8 reps
* Set 2 - 100lbs, 8 reps
* Set 3 - 120lbs, 8 reps
* Set 4 - 120lbs, 8 reps
* Set 5 - 130lbs, 6 reps

Leg Curls
* Set 1 - 90lbs, 10 reps
* Set 2 - 100lbs, 8 reps
* Set 3 - 110lbs, 6 reps
* Set 4 - 120lbs, 8 reps
* Set 5 - 120lbs, 8 reps

* Forward - Set 1 - 20 reps, Set 2 - 18 reps, Set 3 - 16 reps, Set 4 - 16 reps
* Inverted - Set 1 - 13 reps, Set 2 - 13 reps, Set 3 - 10 reps
* E-Verted - Set 1 - 13 reps, Set 2 - 13 reps, Set 3 - 10 reps

Squats (on Smith Machine)
* Set 1 - 110lbs, 8 reps
* Set 2 - 120lbs, 8 reps
* Set 3 - 120lbs, 6 reps
* Set 4 - 120lbs, 8 reps + 5 pulses at 90 degree angle

Walking Lunges
* Sets 1 - 4 - 15lb dumb bells, 12 steps (6 on each leg)

Hamstring Dead Lifts
* Set 1 - 30lbs, 12 reps
* Set 2 - 40lbs, 8 reps
* Set 3 - 40lbs, 8 reps
* Set 4 - 35lbs, 8 reps
* Set 5 - 40lbs, 8 reps

20 Minutes on the treadmill (running)

* P90X Ab Ripper X The Name says it ALL!

With my first rep on most of these, I had to find where my failure weight was, so now I have a better idea for my next Leg day. The Leg Extensions and Leg Curls took me a couple sets to find my "heavy" weight and failure at 6 - 8 reps.

Post - Workout Drink:
* 2 scoops Sun Warrior Protein (Chocolate)
* 1 scoop BCAA
* 1 scoop Greens Powder

*Note - I felt so good this morning. So strong! I woke up at 4:30am ready to GO! Lifting the weights was FUN!!! Yeah!! I know!!! I really enjoyed my workout this morning... and even though I didn't run for as long as I wanted to, I still felt good with doing 20 minutes. I was pouring sweat! My clothes, my head, my chest were all just dripping of sweat! I LOVED it!!

QUESTION: What are your thoughts on BCAA Supplements? I am adding the BCAA powder to my pre and post workout drinks... I've noticed that the Sun Warrior has a sufficient amount of Amino Acids in it, so is the BCAA necessary?

Diary of a Raw Vegan Show Girl... New Video!!

Experiment: Raw Vegan Diet and Lifting Heavy (Week 1)

Last Friday at the gym really set me off to make the decision to go full out VEGAN for this transformation. I have been eating egg-whites, tuna, and lots of WHEY! I'm tired of it. My body wasn't digesting the high quantities of protein that I was consuming and I was remaining constantly bloated, icky feeling and not losing a single pound. At the gym, I jumped on the scale and was at a disappointing 155 Lbs (I started this transformation 9 weeks ago and weighed in at 156 lbs!!) I understand that muscle weighs more than fat, and I wouldn't let the weight bother me, but I have a goal weight for the show of 135 lbs and I MUST be close to that to compete. Being at this for 9 weeks and not budging the scale messes with your head... BUT! I won't give up!

I wanted to go back to my Vegan lifestyle but in all honesty, wasn't sure how with all the weight lifting. I know Vegans Body build I just didn't know enough to train myself as a Vegan.

So this Saturday I met up with one of my GREAT Friends, Kristen Suzanne of Kristen's Raw. This girl is AMAZING!! She's not only super gorgeous and a fun loving spirit, but she is SMART... like REALLY smart! I can sit and talk with her for hours just picking her brain on health, veganism, Raw and so much more... it's awesome!
We sat and talked about where I would get my protein intake from my Vegan options. We went over my weight training for the week and my calorie consumption. This week is going to be a great experience, I have so much faith in everything that we talked about and everything that I am about to do.
This weekend I ate a very CLEAN diet (consisting of Green Juice, Raw Goods, and Vegan Foods), I feel better today than I have felt in the past 9 weeks!

So here's the plan for the week...

Post workout: (6:30 am)
* 2 scoops Sun Warrior Protein, 1 tablespoon Fruits of the Earth, 1 scoop Greens Powder
(Kristen gave me this recipe and calls it a Grenade! I love it!)

Before Breakfast: (7:30 am)
* Fresh Green Juice

Breakfast: (8:30-9 am)
* 2 Scoops Sun Warrior Protein Powder
* 1 Apple

Snack: (10:30-11 am)
* Green Juice

Lunch: (12-12:30 pm)
* Gardein "chicken" breast
* 1 cup steamed veggies
* Seared ToFu
* 1 Cup Steamed Veggies

Snack: (2-2:30 pm)
* Green Juice
* 1 Apple or Carrots (30 minutes after drinking Green Juice)

Late Snack: (4:30 pm)
* 2 Scoops Sun Warrior Protein

Dinner: (6:30 pm)
* Green Juice
* Large Salad

I'll count my calories today to give you an idea of my calorie intake. If Kristen and I feel we need to adjust the meals or snacks, then I'll let you all know :)

This morning at the gym I did:
* 35 Minutes Cardio
* Back and Biceps
** Reaching failure at 6 reps and pushing to complete 8 reps.

This morning's Weight: 151.5 Lbs

I'm really excited about what we have planned for this week... 100% Vegan and High RAW!! I couldn't be happier!! It will be interesting to see what happens with my body, and to share the results daily with all of you!! :)

Pre and Post Workout Nutrition

I went to bed last night reading THRIVE a Vegan Nutrition Guide written by Brendan Brazier (a vegan professional ironman triathlete) and came across information on "Nutrition Before, During and Post Exercise." I was so thrilled to read this!! Now it is mentioned in the book that "The most important factor in a pre-exercise snack is DIGESTIBILITY." Following this sentence is great information on choosing the right foods for easy digestion. Brendan also says, "The ratio of carbohydrate, fat, and protein in the pre-exercise snack is determined by the intensity and duration of the activity."

There are 3 basic levels:
Level One: High Intensity, shorter time; activity lasting one hour or less.
Level Two: Moderate Intensity, moderate time; activity lasting between one and three hours.
Level Three: Lower Intensity, longer time; activity lasting more than three hours.

So for my AM Cardio Session, I put myself in the Level One category (High Intensity, shorter time; activity lasting one hour or less). My AM cardio is 20 minutes high intensity max interval training on the elliptical followed by 20 minutes cardio keeping my heart rate at 165 BPM.

Brendan says that "For short bouts of high-intensity exercise, fuel up on simple carbohydrate." The healthiest source being FRUIT. "Dates are a good choice since they are rich in glucose, a simple carbohydrate."

Pre-Workout Snack:
3 coconut oil filled Dates (coconut oil is a rich source of medium-chain triglycerides. This form of fatty acid is excellent for quick energy!)
1 banana

Post- Workout Snack:
After my cardio at the gym, I came home to have one scoop (1/2 a serving) of the Berry Flavored Vega Complete Whole Food Health Optimizer in water. (The taste gets some getting use to, but the value of it and the optimal nutrition that is incorporated in each serving has be asking more MORE!)

My post workout snack was also my re-fuel for my weight training workout.

After an intense LEG workout, I went for a Recovery Drink. I chose the P90X Recovery Drink Formula (not Vegan) which I put in Rice Milk.

All in all, I feel really good!! I have amazing energy and feel "light."

My new Recovery Snack will be a pudding recipe from Thrive :) I can't wait!!

Now it's time for breakfast!! Smoothie it is! (one hour later)
Chocolate Almond Smoothie (antioxidant-rich!)
(Recipe from THRIVE :])
1 banana
2 fresh dates
1/4 cup almonds
1 tsp ground flaxseed
1 tsp hemp protein
1 tbsp cacao nibs
100% RAW!! :)

Day one Vegan, 9 weeks till Show!

Today was a piece of cake to maintain my vegan diet... however! Keeping my eye on my macronutrient ratios while eating vegan was difficult.

This is what I ate today:

30 minutes after waking up: Green Juice (Collard Greens, Celery, Cucumber, Carrots and Kale).

Lunch: Garden Vegetable Soup from Paradise Bakery (so cool that they offer a Vegan soup!!)

Snack: Berry Flavor Vega powder with small handful of Almonds

Snack: Almonds

Dinner: 2 Vegan Black Bean patties with Raw (and homemade) Sauerkraut.

Dessert: Large jar of Green Juice

This meal plan would NOT fly with my old trainer!! No Way!!!

So this is where I really need to sit down and THINK about how I will need to arrange my food so that I am meeting my ratios for each meal. The Macronutrient Ratio plan is designed to slim the body down while help to build muscle in prep for the Show. So I feel I must keep to this plan... but do it Vegan style... Hmmmm....

Any suggestions would be GREAT!!!

Vegan and SEXY!!

Feeling my BEST and ready for the Last 9 weeks!

I'm one week into my 12 week diet plan... and so far... I hate it!! ha ha ha... Not because I'm limited to serving sizes, but because I'm eating all animal protein!! My body is refusing it.

I've put my body through enough already, and I'm ready to call it QUITS!!! Yep! QUITS!!!!

Ha ha ha... let me explain "QUITS!" I'm not a quitter by any means. When I put my mind to something, then I follow through until my goal is accomplished. And that's it!

So here's what I'm "quitting": ANIMAL Bi-Products!! I'm going back to my Vegan ways!! I know that I only have 9 weeks till show time, but I have to go where my heart is. My body is not cooperating while eating the amount of animal protein that I am eating (210 grams of protein every day!). I was gonna wait till after the show to go back to my Vegan lifestyle, but why wait! I've gone back TODAY! And I feel PHENOMENAL!!

I know that I can train as intense as I do while eating plants and whole foods provided by Mother Earth. This will be a great journey and a wonderful experience to finish out these last weeks as a strong and healthy Vegan.

I will have to teach myself how to do the ratio plan with tofu, soy and possible Vega products. It CAN be done and I am so excited about doing it!!

As far as today... I juiced celery, cucumber, kale, collard greens and carrots. I am drinking juice all day to re-energize my body and rid myself of the toxins I have added to my body over the past 8 weeks. I feel so much better! I feel HEALTHY and STRONG!!

I can't wait to share this experience with all of you! I have great support from my amazing husband :) He loves me so much and wants to see me succeed... we both agree that THIS is the way!!

I am at 150 pounds right now and my goal is to be at 130-135 pounds for competition. I am not losing weight at all! I am losing inches which is GREAT! But I want to see the number go DOWN! My loving and Kind Lifestyle will shed this weight off, without a doubt.

I am by myself as far as training now... I said Goodbye to my trainer last week. I am doing workouts from the ChaLEAN Extreme Push and Lean Phase along with added cardio from INSANITY! I haven't been so excited about this entire journey until RIGHT NOW!!!!
